Lets draw in millennials with bicycles, and lets only make 10 of them for 4200 dollars a pop cause they can surely afford that!

Surely it is decisions like this, and “let’s purposely make a motorcycle that handles, but make it worse than an FZ-07 in every way and charge 3 grand more for it oh and also it’s uncomfortable” that will save Harley Davidson and get them millennials.

Why spend $5,000+ on a bike you can only ride on nice days, has no cargo capacity, and is kind of dangerous? There are many better ways to spend $5,000, such as 2.5 years in your kid’s education IRA. When you can find a variety of newer vehicles for under $10,000 that do a whole lot more than a motorcycle can (even an old Miata can do more than a motorcycle), it doesn’t seem like a worthy investment, unless you’re a millionaire with all of the necessities well-covered.

How much is the brand name marked up for the bike? I have a belt drive bike with 8 gears I got in Germany for $1800. It is a perfect urban assault bike...though I need to ride it more.
The carbon fiber belt needs no oil. It is awesome.

The problem with this particular bicycle isn’t that it’s priced @ $4,200. There are bicycles that sell at double that, and in much higher quantities.
The problem is that this is a shitty, overpriced HD bicycle.
You’re also comparing apples & oranges. Nobody is cross shopping a bicycle with a motorcycle and a used Miata. They all feed different target markets. It’s also doubtful that anybody is buying any of them as an investment.

Not even close.
Try closer to home, Ferrari. Same aging rich consumer base and overt amounts of soft and hard merchandise peddled for those attempting to associate with the brand. Guess what, they have at least a few dozen bicycles wearing their logo that are meant to be ridden and easily four times as many limited edition display only versions.
Selling something to millenials was at least partially correct. The best worst thing you can do is fail to recognize their branding/logo/customers/press releases/media stunts/.../..../..................

they’re only making 10 of the bloody things, for christ’s sake. it’s not an attempt to do anything other than make a commemorative piece. that article is just 100% useless Jalopnik snark from Orlove.
